If you are several months out from making a purchase, it may be a good idea to ask your mortgage broker to use the credit report you just pulled. This prevents them from putting a hit on your credit right away, but still allows them to do your application. Feel free to contact more than one mortgage broker to compare rates, fees & loan programs offered. This should not hurt your credit as long as you do all applications within a 30-60 day timeframe.
Make sure to get a good faith estimate of the costs associated with your loan and a copy of your pre-approval letter. This letter will facilitate better negotiations once you find the right house!
